Welcome to Black Dog Therapy! My name is Laura Berman. Please explore the site, and if you have any further questions, don’t hesitate to contact me by email or through the prompt at the bottom of this page.
I have over 10 years experience in the field of trauma with emphasis on sexual abuse, depression, anxiety, self-esteem issues, interpersonal/relational conflict and life transitions. I received my BA and MA from Naropa University in Boulder, CO. Naropa has a teaching philosophy rooted in the idea that all individuals have the tools within themselves to heal from even the most difficult of experiences. My therapeutic foundation is rooted in this same philosophy. My ideal client is anyone eager to reclaim who they truly are with curiosity, compassion, and raw vulnerability. By exploring this process, I hope to join you in your journey to work through suffering, and illuminate your innate capacity to face it.
My client-centered approach is committed to helping individuals grow and heal from various emotional and behavioral challenges by means of a holistic approach to body-mind reintegration. This involves mindfulness based skills, as well as cognitive behavioral therapy: targeting self-destructive thought patterns and behaviors preventing growth and emotional well-being. By addressing the underlying beliefs and assumptions that prime your feelings, we can find a way to alleviate struggles needing only what lies within and the will to heal.
Being trained in mindfulness practices, as well as having experientially developed keen interpersonal intuition, I have the unique ability to uncover clients’ underlying dissonant beliefs causing conflict. I can shine light on the real issues causing your personal brand of suffering - once unveiled, the darkness dissipates, and healing occurs.
